Fans felt that the comments made jokes of his skin tone.
Fans have expressed discomfort with comments about SEVENTEEN Mingyu‘s skin tone.
Mingyu is a talented and gorgeous idol who often catches attention for his visuals. Many admire the idol’s darker skin tone, especially in an industry that favors paler skin.
However, recent comments about Mingyu’s skin tone did not sit well with fans.
The latest episode of GOING SEVENTEEN was released on November 13. It featured the group splitting into two teams to film content as a mission.
When the team consisting of Mingyu, DK, The8, Vernon, Wonwoo, and Woozi were reviewing their filmed content, a scene showing Woozi and Mingyu next to each other was shown.
DK points out the “big contrast” between the pair, referring to their difference in skin tone as Woozi is pale.
Woozi reacts to DK’s statement as he laughs, while DK mentions the amount of lighting in the room, seeming to question how Mingyu’s skin tone still appeared that way. The8 then comments that Mingyu should not be next to Woozi due to the contrast.
Fans viewing this portion of the program commented on how Mingyu appeared to feel “awkward” during this discussion. Many felt that these remarks made were colorist in nature, as they seemed to make jokes of Mingyu’s skin tone.
the way mingyu immediately tried to change the subject to save their ass like omg this was genuinely such an awkward watch .. svt have literally lived together for years and are professional idols but they just can’t read the room omgpic.twitter.com/YAFPPjwO87
